Pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout attacks, period pain, back pain, and muscle and joint injuries.

Naproxen blocks the COX enzymes that make prostaglandins, the chemicals that produce swelling and heighten the sensitivity of pain nerves in injured or inflamed tissue. With fewer prostaglandins the joint swells less and hurts less.

Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, constipation or diarrhoea, headache and dizziness.

Like other NSAIDs, naproxen can cause stomach ulcers and bleeding and can affect the kidneys, so it is taken with or after food, at the lowest effective dose. Tell your doctor about stomach ulcers, heart failure, high blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, or asthma. Do not take it with another NSAID or with aspirin for pain, and avoid it in the last three months of pregnancy. It is a prescription medicine in Pakistan.
