Pneumonia and other chest infections, sinusitis, complicated urinary tract infections and kidney infections, prostatitis, and some skin infections. It is also used in some tuberculosis regimens.

Levofloxacin blocks DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, the enzymes that untwist bacterial DNA so it can be copied. With the DNA unable to unwind and re-seal, the bacterium cannot divide and dies.

Nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and trouble sleeping. Rash and taste changes also occur.

Stop and contact a doctor at the first sign of tendon pain or swelling, new numbness or tingling, or new anxiety, confusion or low mood: these effects can persist. Avoid strong sunlight. Keep it two hours apart from antacids, iron, zinc and calcium. It can affect heart rhythm and blood sugar, and can lower the seizure threshold, so tell your doctor about epilepsy, diabetes or heart rhythm problems. It is a prescription medicine in Pakistan.
